ServiceFrom D2kinThank You Zone 2!On Saturday November 14th, the All Saints Kinsmen, Stonewall Kinsmen, and Oakbank Kinsmen put on a great event! Congratulations to Kin Greg Gagnon from Stonewall who became a life member of our association. Greg's special night was masked as a charity auction for CF. There were some excellent silent auction prizes and some even better live auction items. The live auction items were expertly sold off by Oakbank's Jim McCarthy. This joint venture was succesful as a fundraiser and brought in very close to $4000 for our district service project!!
Thanks so much much fellow kin! 65 Red RosesIn November 2009, CBC Newsworld debuted a Canadian made documentary about a 23 year old woman in Vancouver with CF who received a double lung transplant. This follows her from her time being on the waiting list, through her surgery, and the after effects. I have posted below a link to the Passionate Eye website which has the video on it. I encourage all of our members to watch this powerful story that may explain a bit more about CF and the affects it has on it's victims. www.cbc.ca/video/#/Shows/The_Passionate_Eye/ID=1333883430
Tim Mckay D2 Service Director Bottles without BordersAs presented at FLC in Vermillion Bay, we are looking to do a district wide service project that will promote the values of the Vision 20/20 Strategic Plan as presented by National. The project we have decided to embark upon is being called Bottles without Borders. The idea is to work with youth to promote the value of being environmentally friendly. We want clubs to do approach a school in their community and for a 2 week period inbetween the beginnig of January and the end of march, have students in a classroom collect drink bottles as recyclables. The class that recycles the most and does the most good for the planet will win Kin Canada reuasable water bottles furnished by D2! CF Goals 2009-2010The kin year is going great! I would like to thank you all so much for the contributions that the clubs and individuals in D2 are making this year. As most of you know, we have a couple of goals this year with regards to CF contributions. First off, the fundraising goal which is $100,000.00. This has been the goal the last couple of years and we have always come SO close. If we can just push a little bit harder then we will find a way to get there, I know it. Secondly we have our friendraising goal which is directly related to increasing the number of clubs who donate. In the 2007-08 Kin year, we had approximately 40% of clubs give a CF donation. If we increase that to our goal of 75%, we are sure to hit the 100K mark! FLC Service Celebration! What an amazing Fall Leadership Convention in Vermillion Bay! It is an honour to represent District 2 as your Service Director this year. Service highlights included having a wonderful speaker Heather Summerhayes Cariou. She is the author of Sixty Five Roses-A Sister's Memoir. She spoke passionately about Kin canada and the importance of maintaining sustained support for those individuals suffering from this deadly disease. Many participants took the time to read about and sign their donor cards. Remember, it is particularly important to express your wishes to your love ones. There are still 1000's of people waiting for an organ transplant in Ontario and Manitoba. Check out our calendar for exciting events including El Salvador CF Fundraiser (January 21st, 2008), Kin -CF Day (Saturday May 3,2008) and the Great Strides Walk (Sunday May 25th, 2008. I am so excited about our great fundraising year!!! Yours In Service, Heather Kozak, Service Director |
